Our next workshop on natural building will take place in Bouboulika Ecofarm Milokokia, Thesprotia. Our host for this workshop is embarking on her personal journey into the realm of permaculture, self-sufficiency, and sustainability, and she is one of the most wonderful people we have had the good fortune to live with and work alongside. She has already designed her space and is moving forward with determination to realize her dream.

 

We’ll do our part by restoring an old stone building that will serve as a kitchen. We’ll repair the walls and roof and equip the space with everything a kitchen needs to accommodate a large crowd. Wood-fired oven, rocket stove, sinks, countertops, etc. We will use most of the well-known natural building techniques and apply clay- and lime-based mortars.

 

Since the project is quite ambitious, we’ll be happy to welcome anyone who wants to continue working on it after the workshop to finish what’s left.

 

 

Theoretical Topics:

Clay and natural materials in general. How to identify them, where to find them, and how to work with them.

Natural building techniques. What they are and how to build with each one.

Natural roofs.

Floors made of natural materials.

Natural plasters.

Natural paints.

 

Dates: From the afternoon of Thursday, June 4, through the afternoon of Sunday, June 7. A meeting and briefing for participants will be held on Thursday afternoon.

 

Location: On Bouboulika Ecofarm in Milokokkia, Thesprotia. This workshop holds two other records: it is our first workshop in Epirus, the only region in Greece we have not visited in the last 20 years. Milokokkia is also the smallest settlement in which we have held a workshop, with a total of just six houses.

 

Accommodation: In tents on the premises

Equipment: You will need a tent, a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, work clothes, and flip-flops.

Participation fee: €150 per person, which includes accommodation and meals (vegan - sometimes farm eggs or honey are served on the side).
